Rooted in a lifetime commitment to family, community, and doing what's right, Dr. Woods was previously conceived by Van Woods, the son of Sylvia Woods, the founder of the renowned Sylvia's Restaurant in New York City, and long-time friend and business partner, Gary Greenhouse.

We strive to offer the best natural ingredients for our products, and we work diligently to use free-trade and sustainably-produced items whenever and wherever possible.

Our ingredients and products are never tested on animals and are certified cruelty-free. Our vegan soaps are free from petroleum, detergents, sulfates, parabens, and phthalates. Dr. Woods supports a number of family and education-focused organizations that are devoted to giving back to their communities and assisting young people in need. While we often support many smaller organizations, we provide ongoing support to several, including organizations dedicated to family and education.

Starting with our Black Soap, Dr. Woods' vision was to produce high-quality skin care products sourced worldwide but made right here in the United States. Raw black soap is a unique all-vegetable soap product, with its key ingredient derived from plantain skins, a highly renewable natural resource.

Shea butter, harvested from the nut of the Karite tree, is indigenous to West Africa (our organic fair-trade shea butter comes specifically from the African Savannah).
